Willow

My idea with this project is to recreate the look of bark on a canvas. I imagine the final piece hung by a bedroom window. The early morning light flowing over all the peaks and troughs. The colours cast in different shades under the glow. If this piece comes out the way I want it to, it will be something special, and could kick start a series of different trees. For my first attempt, I am using the twisting bark of the weeping willow as a reference.

Layers and layers (and pots and pots) of modelling paste have been used to build up a crazy texture. The whole thing will then be coated in black, and the colours and highlights brought out from there. At the moment, blending and applying the colours to the piece is proving a challenge due to the nature of the textured surface. So, it’s back to the drawing board to work on this…
