Nelson

Lord Horatio Nelson. The epitome of patriotism, duty, and determination. The British national hero. I am currently painting a challenging replica of one of the most iconic portraits in history. To honour the original painting I have ‘resorted’ (I dislike the order of it) to scaling the picture with a grid system. The painting, by Lemuel Francis Abbott, is so firmly established in my memory that I am talking no risks with getting the proportions correct. This is THE portrait of the man, and one of the most famous of all time, and I feel any alteration from this would be noticed and seem strange. I will then spruce it up with brighter colours, the British flag, and the patterned look of Nelson’s flagship HMS Victory.
